Blog Comment Spam

I have been fighting a war on my blog with some comment spammers. I thought I wrote in enough spam words to trap them but they seem to keep coming. I think this is partly a problem with me using a standard installation of my blog software the other part being that these guys are jackasses. Since I don’t have time right now to go find a good comment spam prevention plug in for Wordpress, I’m just going to turn comment moderation on so that these jackasses don’t get the benefit of any spam they try to post here. Grrrr. Sorry in advance if you try to comment and it doesn’t appear right away.

Technology Will Set You Free, Maybe

Some recent events (personal and professional) have made me consider the place technology has in life.

For many people, technology becomes a type of electronic ball and chain which is forever latched to their legs. You have undoubtedly seen these folks before in everyday life. They’re the ones that are trying to do email on their blackberry email devices while driving and yet they aren’t at a complete stop. They’re also the ones that will answer the phone while using the bathroom (public or private). These are the folks that, in my opinion, have taken accessibility and access to technology to an undesirable extreme. I still appreciate the personal phone call or face-to-face meeting with a friend or acquaintance.

On the other hand, technology has the ability for you to be able to accomplish things that were impossible before. Technology allows for constant security and vigilance over an area through automation. Or easily controlling when, how, and where entertainment media is enjoyed. Or the ability to easily contact individuals for meetings during business trips so that your time is spent most efficiently.

Clearly there is a definite benefit in leveraging and using new technologies. I just wonder if the nature of some people allow for the benefits of technology to take too much of a strangle hold on their lives. And more importantly, what that means for the rest of us who don’t care to be ensnared in such a net of technology. Will the rest of us have to “keep up” with these people?

Catalyst Magazine

I was interviewed for an article in Catalyst Magazine (it’s pretty much an Atlanta only magazine so don’t go looking for it if you aren’t in Atlanta) not too long ago. I haven’t actually seen the magazine or read the article yet. Actually, until someone told me about the article earlier today I didn’t know what context my interview was being used for in the magazine (thanks Mark!). Here is the obligatory magazine cover with my mug shot on it.
