My Apologies

So I was recently at a restaurant which served fairly good food but the service was absolutely horrendous. So much so that I don’t think I’ll go back to the restaurant regardless of how much I liked the food. So that got me thinking…

I recently skewered a commenter on this blog for asking a question and having poor grammar. But was that really the right thing to do? If I don’t want people posting and asking questions here (regardless of their ability to be grammatically correct) I could either turn off comments. If I don’t want random people finding this blog, I could also make it non-public. In fact, if I really don’t want anyone thinking about anything I’m writing, I could just write to a text file and save it away.

But the fact that I do write a public blog which has comments enabled means that I’m inviting anyone and everyone (aside from spammers) to read and comment on what I’ve written even if they are doing a “surf by comment”.

So given all this, I was unduly harsh to Sanjeev. Sanjeev – you have my apologies for acting in such a harsh way. Good luck to you in getting admission to b-school or whatever you do. As for me, I’m going to try to be nicer to people and thanks to you for this life lesson.
