Why I Hate Spreadsheet Jockeys

So word is I’m going to be quoted in a story in the Atlanta Business Chronicle tomorrow (I haven’t seen it yet) and I thought I’d talk about why I said some of the things I said.  First, if you didn’t know the Atlanta Business Chronicle has again put a reporter on the technology/startup beat after saying that they were going to stop covering this area.  It might have to do with the fact that so many of you dropped your subscription.  I dropped mine years ago in protest of treatment that I got from a previous reporter.  Regardless of the changes, I don’t intend to restart my subscription.  Unless of course, I can get one for free.  But that’s not the point of this blog post.

Startup Weekend Atlanta

Startup Weekend AtlantaI’ve had a lot of random events going on lately. Last week I was in New York for a conference and this upcoming weekend is Startup Weekend Atlanta. I’m looking forward to the event especially since I don’t know a number of people currently slated to attend. I always find these types of events more interesting when I get to meet folks I didn’t know before.  If you’re and are a reader of my blog, feel free to introduce yourself.  I always enjoy meeting folks who take the time to read my random thoughts.  And if you aren’t already signed up to go, it’ll be hard to get a spot at this point.  The attendee list and waitlist are pretty full but give it a try.  You never know until you try.  I’ll see the rest of you on Friday!

BarCamp Atlanta

BarCamp AtlantaJeff Haynie just blogged about a BarCamp Atlanta being planned. Read all about it here. I’m planning on going. Are you?

SoCon07 - Go Register!

One of the guys I met at an Atlanta Technology Dinner - Jeff Haynie - is working on an Atlanta conference for networking and discussing things Web 2.0. The SoCon 07 is free (if you don’t want to eat or need a place to stay) and registration is open now. So what are you waiting for? I’ll be there for most of it. If you’re there, make sure you come up and say “hi”.

MidCity Cuisine and Eatzi’s Bankrupt

MidCity CuisineMidCity Cuisine filed for bankruptcy. Not earth shattering considering that they closed down but still.

Eatzi’sOn a related note, folks should know that both Eatzi’s locations in Atlanta (as well as across the country other than in Dallas I think) have shut down. I called the Eatzi’s headquarters and found out that the company went under and the assets were bought by someone (I didn’t ask who). Dang.
